How are emissions calculated?
Emissions are automatically calculated based on uploaded utility data, applied emission factors, and regional standards
There are four ways to calculate emissions on the Tracera platform:
- The first method involves using utility data. Users can upload utility bills or invoices directly to the platform, after which Tracera’s AI automatically extracts the relevant data fields needed for emissions calculations. Specifically, the AI identifies the recorded energy usage and applies the appropriate unit of measurement. Every utility type in Tracera has a set 'system default unit.’ The reason for this is due to the denominator of the emission factor within the system. All usage values on bills will be converted to this system default unit, before being multiplied to the appropriate regional emission factor to calculate emissions.
Tracera utilizes live data from databases such as Ecoinvent or CBECS to apply appropriate emissions factors during calculations. When available, the platform can also incorporate site-specific emissions factors to provide a more accurate and customized assessment of a facility’s greenhouse gas emissions.
